The best thing you can do for your smile is keep tooth decay at bay. However, that might be a difficult task if you’re not sure how to do so. So, to help you, Dr. Alberto A. Herrero and our Alberto A. Herrero, DDS team recommend doing the following things on a regular basis:

Keep up on oral hygiene
Make sure you brush your teeth every morning and every night, floss your smile at least once a day, and rinse your mouth daily with mouthwash. These techniques will help you eliminate the harmful particles that live on your smile each day. It’s also important to visit your dentist every six months for a routine cleaning and checkup. These appointments will include the only treatment that can completely remove plaque from your smile, which is another substance that can create tooth decay if left untreated.

Take advantage of fluoride
Fluoride is a natural mineral that strengthens your teeth and prevents tooth decay, which is why it’s best to take advantage of fluoride as much as possible. You can receive fluoride by using fluoride toothpaste when you brush, using fluoride mouthwash when you rinse, and drinking fluoridated tap water as much as possible. You can also take advantage of fluoride treatment when you come into our office.

Chew sugarless gum
If you chew sugarless gum for 20 minutes after each meal, then you will produce the saliva you need to wash away the debris and bacteria that cause tooth decay.
